What will u2 play at glastonbury
But their healthy back catalogue and formidable showmanship seems well-placed to raise sodden spirits. Working with an additional video screen, they reach back to the earlys not just with an opening salvo of songs from Achtung Baby but with the frenetic visual overload of the Zoo TV tour.
It finds them at their fiercest and most urgent, The Edge wrenching bolts of noise from his guitar during Until the End of the World.
One and Where the Streets Have No Name, usually preserved for the finale of their touring set, follow. It's a lean, combative, frontloaded set calibrated to win the unconverted at their first festival show since the 80s. More rain is expected later and on Saturday but sunshine is forecast for Sunday.
Last year's event saw some of the hottest and driest conditions in Glastonbury's history. Police made more than 30 arrests in the days leading up to the start of the festival, the majority drug related.

U2's propensity to play large-scale spectacular gigs was one of the reasons they had not yet played the festival, McGuinness said. Tickets for next year's Glastonbury sold out in 24 hours without a sniff of a confirmed headliner.
The Guardian is the official media sponsor of the festival. They kept it interesting by putting in a few surprises. I thought Stay was beautiful and Bad made me go all tingley. I agree with Larry about the crowd being too far away though. The rain gave it more atmosphere and I loved the Damian Hurst graphics in the first bit. Well done guys! The heavens opened and rained tears of joy!
There were angel kisses bestowed on U2! Truly a concert of joy! Well done lads! Just wanted to say that I loved seeing the constellations during this song. A constellation of favorable circumstances for certain. Love the intimacy conveyed through this song and also the genuine smiles at the end of Moment of Surrender. Fave moments for certain though rather a challenge to pick. What an amazing set, at Glasto. Welome back to the West Country.
The set they played was fantastic, Out of Control an amazing song to end on. Please come back to the West Country soon. Bring out the DVD, please! The Glastonbury gig of last night was on of their best I saw since years. As a fan of the first hour I was thrilled by the way they played their songs. Ecspecially when One came along,it brought tears to my eyes. But anyway, thanks for another great moment in my life and keep on spicing it up!!
